Broadway shows are finally reopening this fall for the first time since they closed in March of 2020! Crowd favorites like Hamilton, Wicked, and The Lion King are returning as soon as Sept. 14 at the Richard Rodgers Theatre, the Gershwin Theatre, and the Minskoff Theatre. Tickets are currently being sold at 100-percent capacity and are working to safely welcome audiences and employees.
Here are the family-friendly Broadway shows that are reopening beginning this fall.
Musicals Appropriate for Younger Kids
Aladdin
New Amsterdam Theatre, 214 W. 42nd St.
Returning: Sept. 28
Recommended ages: All
The on-stage adaptation of the Disney favorite is a crowd favorite for all ages.
The Music Man
Winter Garden Theatre, 1634 Broadway
Returning: Feb. 10, 2022
Recommended ages: All
Starring Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster, the show follows a traveling salesman (Jackman) as he cons people into buying instruments and uniforms for a boys’ band that he vows to organize—even though he knows nothing about music!
The Lion King
Minskoff Theatre, 200 W. 45th St.
Returning: Sept. 14
Recommended ages: 6 and older
The on-stage adaptation of the Disney movie follows Simba, an adventurous lion cub who is next in line to be king of the Pride Lands in the African savanna.
Six
Brooks Atkinson Theatre, 256 W. 47th St.
Returning: Sept. 17
Recommended ages: 6 and older
Combining history, heartbreak, and pop music, Six sees Henry VIII’s wives take to the mics to share their story.

Dear Evan Hansen

Recommended ages: 12 and older
The musical follows Evan Hansen, a schoolboy whose life changes forever after he writes a secret letter. The show features themes of suicide and bullying and may be best suited for ages 12 and older. Children younger than 4 are not permitted.
Hamilton

The multi-Tony-winning musical tells the story of the Founding Father and first Secretary of the Treasury using contemporary music, featuring a diverse cast.
Wicked

Recommended ages: 7 and older
This musical is a prequel to the Wizard of Oz, following Glinda and Elphaba, the witches of Oz, before they met Dorothy and exploring their unlikely friendship.
Chicago
The Ambassador Theatre, 219 W. 49th St.

Recommended ages: 12 and older
The show celebrates its 25th anniversary on Broadway, making it the second-longest running Broadway musical of all time. The show is a satire on corruption and criminal justice, set in the Chicago jazz age. It may be inappropriate for children younger than 12.
Ain’t Too Proud

The musical documents the Temptations musical career, from Motown to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Debra Messing stars in this show following Ernestine Ashworth across a lifetime of birthdays, from her 17th to her 101st.
Caroline, or Change

Set in Louisiana in 1963, Caroline is an African American maid who lives by the example that the smallest changes can lead to the largest transformations.
Come From Away

Come From Away tells the true story of resilience of the human spirit and camaraderie when 38 planes were diverted to Gander, Newfoundland due to the World Trade Center attacks Sept. 11, 2011.

The musical follows Princess Diana’s story, from her engagement to her worldwide fame to her tragic death.
Jagged Little Pill

Mrs. Doubtfire
