10 Ways to Celebrate Women’s History Month in Staten Island
Women’s History Month is here! Every March, we celebrate women: the brave women whose contributions to society paved the way for future generations, as well as the wonderful women who continue to be shining examples for young girls today.
There are plenty of kid-friendly events and exhibitions around Staten Island this month where your family can enrich their knowledge of all things Women’s History through crafts, activities, celebrations, presentations, and more.

The Alice Austen House Museum

Visit the Alice Austen House in Staten Island and learn all about one of America’s earliest woman photographers. Celebrate this woman’s work by exploring and analyzing her historic photographs. Additionally, on March 9th attend the exhibition opening of “Worm, root, wort… & bane” which features photographs and sculptures by Ann Shelton. The event will run from March 9th to May 26th. Invite the entire family to come support and celebrate women artists.

A lecture by Kara Cooney, renowned Professor of Egyptology at UCLA and Chair of the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Cultures, entitled ‘When Women Ruled the World.’ The lecture will be followed by a reception in the Foundation Hall atrium and an exhibit in Horrmann Library featuring the Archaeology Society of Staten Island archival collection and library gift.

The Paper Doll Revolution Art Workshop

The Paper Doll Revolution Art Workshop will highlight revolutionary women in history using paper dollmaking techniques in celebration of Women’s History Month.
